HOW DOES THE LASER TREATMENT WORK?

The laser creates a beam of high-intensity light that penetrates deep into skin tissue where it delivers a controlled amount of therapeutic heat. Candela's patented Dynamic Cooling Device™ (DCD™) technology protects the upper layers of your skin with a cooling burst of cryogen.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING TREATMENT?

You will wear safety glasses to protect your eyes from the laser light. Your technician/practitioner will guide the laser over the area being treated by using a small handpiece. Prior to the laser pulse, a puff of cryogen is sprayed in the area to cool the skin. Your treatment could take a few minutes or up to an hour; This depends on how many areas are being treated.

DOES IT HURT?

Some clients may feel a slight discomfort with the laser pulse, sometimes described as the snapping of a rubber band on the skin. This discomfort is minimized by Candela's DCD cooling. For some clients, a topical anesthetic may be used prior to treatment.

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

The number of sessions will vary. This depends on several different factors, such as skin color and hair color. Usually between 3 and 6, everyone is different.

BEFORE TREATMENT

Parameters are set to ensure effective hair removal and skin safety

DURING TREATMENT

Pigment in hair shaft absorbs the light. The resulting heat damages each follicle.

AFTER TREATMENT

Damaged hairs are elimiated with excellent long-term results.

HOW DO I PREPARE FOR TREATMENT?

The day before your treatment, shave the area you are having treated, in order to get the best results for you. No tanning (either by direct sun or tanning bed), no tanning creams, no plucking or waxing. No deodorants, creams, lotions, or oils in the areas being treated. If you have a history of herpes in the area being treated you will want to start taking your medication one or two days before your treatment, as the laser can possibly cause an outbreak.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER TREATMENT?

Clients/Patients should avoid sun exposure approximately 2 weeks before and after treatments and should always apply sun block (SPF 45 and higher) when going outdoors.

ARE THERE SIDE EFFECTS?

Your risks are minimal. Side effects may include purpura (a laser bruise), redness, blistering, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, and swelling in the treated area - these usually do not last more than a few days. Permanent side effects, such as hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation or scarring, are very rare.

ARE THESE TREATMENTS COVERED BY INSURANCE?

Most insurance companies do not cover these procedures, however, some insurance companies do have a cosmetic pool of money that can be used for cosmetic procedures. Consult your carrier for conclusive information.
